“You only live YOUNG once, so take a selfie.” – Unknown
My first blog should probably be about me documenting an electrifying experience, one I have never experienced in my life. I hate to disappoint but this blog will not be about “that” experience. While I was working on getting my website up and ready to go, I realized a more problematic issue which needed my immediate attention. I was not able to find a single photo of myself to upload onto my website. If I were going to jump into 2018 hoping to document all the fun, new, exciting, and embarrassing stuff; I needed to become comfortable with taking selfies.
I sat at my desk, pulled up folders and looked through files and files of photos but not one of them included a picture of myself. I had hundreds-no exaggeration-of photos of my children, my family, my husband, even my rabbit and probably a few of myself but they weren’t photos of only me. How was I going to document my life if I had no single photo of myself? How was I going to document my life if I were not yet comfortable with looking into the camera and smiling for a selfie? So, I’ve decided the first challenge I will take on is to take one selfie a day for an entire month-the good, the bad, and the ugly.
I once read somewhere, “you only live YOUNG once, so take a selfie”. Although this quote resonated with me, I did not practice the saying. I was not confident enough, even today, to look into my camera, smile, and say cheese in my head while pressing the shutter release. For whatever strange and unknown reasons, I fear taking SELFIES!
I have decided I will overcome this fear and start documenting selfies. We definitely only live young once, therefore we need to take more selfies. One day when my children grow up, I want to be able to pull up the best looking selfie, look them in the eyes and say, “I was much cooler than you!”
Here is the first photo I took this year. You can probably tell it is NOT a selfie and I cropped out my husband on the left side of the photo but I’m going to say, here’s the first selfie of the year! Before I go, I’d also like to encourage every one of you to take a selfie. If it isn’t one selfie a day, at least one selfie a month. You’d be surprised to be able to look back and see how much you’ve grown-not only mentally but physically. “You only live young once, so take [many selfies].”
With love,
Lenda
